Water in the West is an iconic Environmental Studies course at Prescott College that embraces an interdisciplinary and experiential approach. Students learn about the natural history of water in the West, water politics, social justice, conservation, Indigenous views of water, and more. After two weeks of intensive classroom-based study, the course heads out into the field for an inside tour of the Hoover Dam and a four-day canoe trip on the Colorado River, where students experience firsthand everything they have been learning about. The class wraps up with ideas and strategies for building a sustainable watered future.
Often when we visit special ecological areas our observations are restricted to a limited view. In this documentary, six diverse ecological reserves across Vancouver Island are explored with the goal of revealing some of their special features and hearing from their volunteer wardens. Shot on a drone and a macro lens to show unique perspectives, I created this documentary in collaboration with BC Parks and the Friends of Ecological Reserves to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ecological Reserves Act in Canada.
This short film adaptation of Moneyball (2011) was created for a film and literature class at Quest University Canada. The idea behind it was to tie together the integral pieces of Billy Bean's story, both his past and his present, in a 5 minute piece using flashbacks.
My outdoor adventures from summer 2021 told through a collection of drone shots.
Unable to ski this winter due to ankle surgery, I found myself noticing the flowing, ever-changing movement of the fog that often surrounds Quest University. Using my drone, I captured this ethereal beauty and transformed it into an otherworldly landscape, playing with basic image masking to create the impression that gravity does not exist in this realm, much like how I imagine the fog itself experiences things. This video reminds me to live slowly and notice nature’s almost imperceptible dance all around us.
